Are you interested in having the opportunity to:
- Live in India and experience the culture?
- Make friends with Guides and Scouts from around the world?
- Help run programmes and sessions for participants?
- Develop new skills and abilities?
- Relax in the peace and tranquility of Sangam?
Then you should consider applying to be a volunteer at Sangam World Centre. Enjoy the excitement and diversity of the city of Pune?
Sangam offers several volunteer opportunities for members of Guiding and Scouting from around the world. Programme Assistants work for three months (June to September)2 spaces plus 1 development space for a young woman (18+ years) from the Asia-Pacific Region and six months (September to March) 2 spaces each year. In addition, we have an Assistant Programme Manager who works for ten months (June to March). They all help with the preparations for international events, as well as the running of events. It’s a great opportunity to experience life abroad, develop training skills, and enjoy the friendship and fun of international Guiding.
Each day brings fun and adventure as we do community projects, visit local historical sites, learn mehendi (henna drawings on the hand), rangoli (chalk drawing), tribal art, sari tying, and more. Upcoming events have themes such as Bollywood (the Indian film industry), community development, Indian culture, communication, women’s empowerment, medicine, and peace.
Essential to the fulfillment of our mission, Sangam volunteers come prepared to give service both to the local community and Guides and Scouts from around the world by sharing their skill and expertise.
In return, volunteers themselves are able to receive training and achieve self-development as they build professional skills and learn about Indian culture.
Volunteers are provided with partial assistance towards travel costs, full board with private room, while working and a basic monthly allowance.
Volunteers should be over 21 years of age with no upper age limit but fitness and a great attitude is required! The hours can sometimes be long and there is always plenty to keep you busy. Applicants need a strong background in Guiding/Girl Scouting, a genuine love for people, sensitivity to others’ needs, flexibility, initiative, a sense of humour and a belief in the basic principles of Guiding/Girl Scouting.
Applications for all positions from June to March are due annually on 31 December the year prior. This page contains further details on each position as well as on application procedures.
Please Note: If you are interested in volunteering with a Community Organization in India rather than at Sangam then please read about our Community Volunteer Programme and our Community Action information pages.
