You are invited to Sangam World Centre! One of four international Girl Guide and Girl Scout Centres in the world, Sangam (Sanskrit for coming together) is located in Pune, India and offers a unique opportunity to experience Indian culture whilst living in an international Guiding and Scouting community.  

Events and seminars are open to Guides and Scouts, their families and friends, groups and individuals, men and women. Choose from a wide range of event themes. Whether you work with local social organizations to secure the rights of children, discover music and dance in Bollywood movies, focus on multicultural communication and leadership, or investigate global themes during an international seminar, you will get an inside look at India that a tour could never provide.

You will be welcomed to Sangam with a special ceremony that blends the traditions of India in a moving, evocative occasion. You will be introduced to Indian culture as you visit the neighbourhood surrounding Sangam, see what an average Indian house looks like, meet and interact with people from all levels of Indian society and explore the complexities of religion, language, gender and class as they influence the lives of people in Pune, and around India.

During your programme, experience the excitement of Indian life as you try Indian food, visit an outdoor market, go sari shopping, visit famous sites, try Indian art, and more. Throughout your stay, you will discover the unexpected as you are invited to join the neighbourhood boys in a game of cricket, get invited to a community celebration, go for harrowing rickshaw rides through the streets of Pune dodging cows, goats, and sheep, wander through the markets, climb to a hilltop for views of Pune, learn yoga, or try meditation.

Events and seminars vary from 6 to 12 days in length and are scheduled from January to March and June to December of each year. View a sample event schedule. 

For people interested in staying for a longer period of time, the Community Volunteer Programme offers adult WAGGGS members the chance to volunteer with an Indian community organizations. This three month programme runs twice a year. Participants can contribute to women and children by leading songs and games, teaching computers, working on literacy programmes, sharing skills and giving of themselves. 

Included are an extensive orientation programme, placement with the organisations, language lessons, participation in sessions occurring at the centre and the opportunity to share the fun and friendship of international Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting.
