"Assistant Programme Manager"
One of four World Centres, Sangam is an international gathering place for members and friends of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, providing opportunities to meet and share experiences. Sangam offers Events and Seminars, Community Action Programmes, and international volunteer and employment opportunities in a residential environment.
Responsible to Programme Manager
Main Purpose To assist in the implementation of innovative and dynamic international events, including community work projects, children’s camps, and advocacy seminars.
Duration of Position 10 months (May - March)
- Maintain an atmosphere conducive to international friendship, understanding, and the values of WAGGGS
- Ensure that local customs are respected by all
- Fulfil the mission of Sangam by assisting with developing, facilitating, and evaluating programmes for training and self-development as an active member of the Programme Team
- Ensure the highest standards of customer service to all visitors
- Maintain a positive working environment for all staff and volunteers
- Undertake specific duties as detailed below
Specific Duties
- Implement the programme with the Programme Manager (PM)
- Deputise for the PM when appropriate
- Assist the PM in the training and supervision of the Programme Assistants
- Assist the PM with programme correspondence before and after events
- With the PM, create draft programmes for events
- With the Programme Team (PT), review and finalize programme schedules
- With the PT, evaluate events and make improvements
- With the PM and Administrative Assistant, carry out all logistical programme tasks
- Design, prepare, and run event activities specific to each event theme, including tours
- Represent home country and national Member Organisation in cultural sessions when there are no participants from home country present
- Facilitate conversation at tea time and patrol duties at meals
- Prepare and distribute Event Reviews
- Inventory, maintain, and restock all resources and equipment in the Programme Room
- Search for materials and contacts for future events
- Maintain and update the library
- Write web site, newsletter, and magazine articles as directed by the PM/DWCM
- Assist with the community bazaar, staff events, and other Sangam activities
- Carry out other duties as directed
The work of the Assistant Programme Manager at Sangam involves an extremely wide range of activities, which use a variety of organisational and creative skills. Flexibility and willingness to take on unexpected tasks and new challenges is essential.
Minimum Advanced* English level
