In this extended community action project, learn about and work with marginalised women and children in our community. Share with them the skills of advocating for their rights. Empower our community partners through hands-on activities about WAGGGS’ three key advocacy words: educate, do, speak. Be inspired to make your own community a better place with memorable experiences in an Indian context. Get to know the colourful city of Pune during visits to cultural and spiritual sites. Enjoy local art, food, and styles – traditional and modern – as you share the spirit of Sangam and international Guiding and Scouting.
Get involved in a community action project as you plan and run a camp at Sangam for disadvantaged local children. Discover the similarities between children from your area and those in ours, and how you can make a difference to both. Meet people who are advocating for youth in Pune, learn about children’s rights around the world, and what WAGGGS’ is doing on a global scale. Immerse yourself in Indian culture as you prepare for the lifetime experience of a 4-day Children’s Camp with our community partners.
Learn how gender, wealth and language influence education in India as you participate in a community action project with local schools. Visit a variety of schools and educational NGOs to experience the challenges of educating India’s millions of children who speak 18 different official languages. Discover how school-based Guiding and Scouting works in India, share international educational resources that WAGGGS offers, while also exploring Indian culture through spirituality and the arts.
Discover Your Potential IV (10 days) November 21 - 30, 2009 Work with local social organisations on a community action project aiming to provide medical care and health education to disadvantaged people. Health care professionals and others with an interest in the field will share skills and knowledge with Sangam’s community partners. In addition, participants will learn about the ancient legacy of Indian medicine and modern facilities through visits to holistic healing centres and neighbourhood hospitals. Take this opportunity to enjoy the diversity of Pune and exploring cultural sites and colourful markets.
